small pieces of joy

pieces of joy in each day

Here are the small things from this weekend. I was going to post last night, but I was too tired and didn’t feel like having people read my incoherent 1am ramblings. So here we go with a more intelligent post for today.

ST1: Rain!! We haven’t had rain here in a while so it was a welcome change in weather. I felt bad for all the tailgating people who were out in the rain, but they chose their destiny.

St2: Driving around South Bend on game day is quite entertaining. There was a guy standing on the corner with a sign saying “I need tickets” and next to him sat a guy with a sign saying “I have tickets”. I wonder if they read each other’s signs. Also, there were girls doing the chicken dance on the side of the street with signs saying “name your own chicken” which I’m not sure what that is all about. There must be some sort of excitement in knowing you got to name someone else’s chicken.

ST3: I made bread crumbs. If you haven’t noticed many of the small things I’m seeing are cooking related, because I didn’t cook much when I was growing up, so anything I do successfully in the kitchen is wonderful.

ST4: I lost gracefully in a game of Settlers of Catan. This whole working on being a better loser has turned out to be very good, especially since I have lots of opportunities to lose while playing games! 😉

ST5: The little red light on waffle makers never ceases to amaze me. It is so amazing that this little appliance can indicate when the waffle will have perfect brownness on the outside and nice and fluffy insides. I made 4 perfect waffles today thanks to you, oh prophetic waffle light.

ST6: The crsip crunch when biting into a perfectly ripe apple is music to my ears. We went apple picking today and enjoyed many varieties of apples while collecting our 1/2 bushel. We tried empire, golden delicious, macintosh, and my husband’s namesake, jonathan. It was so fun wandering around looking for the perfect apples from the trees. We took some fun pictures and enjoyed something called a cherry waffle boat, found exclusively at Tree-Mendous Orchard in Michigan.

ST7: I’m also cutting back on my worrying, thanks to the book Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World. I’m reminded that I worry about things that have already happened or things I can’t do anything about. So today when I worried about many things, I told myself to stop, and it has been a much more peaceful day for me, and for my husband!

Now its time for me to go check on the meal in the crock-pot. This is also my first time experimenting with this appliance wonder. What did people do before all these amazing things? Then we’re going to a friend’s house to have apple wine and apple pie, to finish off our apple picking day. Should be fun!

More writing to come soon. Thanks again for all who read, I love sharing my life with you!
