let it snow; repeat

ST1: 6 inch ribbon curls. I watched Elf yesterday and decided to try my hand at 6 inch ribbon curls. I’d say I was pretty successful. I forgot how much fun wrapping presents can be, if you’re not in a time crunch! It also made me very excited to give the gifts!

ST2: Santa Claus on Glee. If you didn’t see yesterday’s episode, one of the characters still believes in Santa. It was such a great episode, watching the other characters try to keep her childlike faith alive for at least one more Christmas was pretty inspiring. I was thinking about this, and believing in Santa as a child is how we should believe in Jesus now. It’s the child-like faith that children have in Santa that we should have. We believed that with Santa, anything could happen. And when he didn’t bring exactly what we wanted, we still believed. It is definitely hard to believe in something we can’t see. I struggle with it all the time. I’d like to try for the rest of the Advent season to have a Child-like faith in Jesus, like I did with Santa. Maybe I’ll be anxious for Jesus’ birth like I was for Christmas Day when I knew Santa had come!

ST3: “Where are you Christmas?” This song reminds me of a time when I was in the car with my brother and this song came on. We tend to belt this song as loud as possible, and make sure to emphasize the phrase, “my world is Chee-anging” because we’re not sure what ‘cheeanging’ is. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, listen to the song and you’ll know.

 

I actually listened to the lyrics this time, and the same line I always laugh about was the one that hit me the most. “My world is changing, I’m rearranging, does that mean Christmas changes too?” This year my husband and I will not have a Christmas tree. We don’t have the space or the money to have one. We also won’t have stockings because we don’t have a fireplace, or any good wall space to hang them. I will spend most of Christmas season away from my family, more so than when I was in college. But all of these details don’t really matter, because really, I get to have Christmas no matter what else is going on in my life. It will still come, Jesus is still born, and that will always be the same. These thoughts make me very comfortable with not having the same things as I usually do for Christmas. Thank you, Faith Hill, for helping me realize this.

ST4: icy icicles, again. I just can’t get over it. Compare the two pictures below. It’s incredible. And I also have included a video of the snow. Even though it is frigid outside, I am happy to look at the beautiful snowflakes falling.
