Back in Kansas!!

Small things have been all over the place since we arrived. Warmer temperatures, small child giggles, surprise visits, the smell of evergreen, smushed pumpkins still outside, laughing while eating ham and beans, learning that syrup can be a topping for cornbread, losing horribly at the game of Life. 🙂

Here are a few more Christmas songs on my list. I’ve kinda been slacking on this, but the Christmas season lasts until Epiphany on Jan 2, so I have some time! 🙂

Song 10: O Come All Ye Faithful. I love this song because of its beautiful melodies as well as the simple and powerful lyrics. I love Josh Groban’s version of this song, but I can’t find a good version of it on YouTube to share. Just trust me on this one!

O Come All Ye Faithful
Joyful and triumphant,
O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem.
Come and behold Him,
Born the King of Angels;
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
Christ the Lord.

O Sing, choirs of angels,
Sing in exultation,
Sing all that hear in heaven God’s holy word.
Give to our Father glory in the Highest;
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
Christ the Lord.

All Hail! Lord, we greet Thee,
Born this happy morning,
O Jesus! for evermore be Thy name adored.
Word of the Father, now in flesh appearing;
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
Christ the Lord.

Song 9: O Come O Come Emmanuel. This song is so cool because it reflects the anticipation of Christmas in its more contemplative sound. The lyrics also show the different ways the Lord will be a savior. So cool.

Here is my favorite version of this by Mannheim Steamroller

O come, O come, Emmanuel
And ransom captive Israel
That mourns in lonely exile here
Until the Son of God appear
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, Thou Rod of Jesse, free
Thine own from Satan’s tyranny
From depths of Hell Thy people save
And give them victory o’er the grave
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, Thou Day-Spring, come and cheer
Our spirits by Thine advent here
Disperse the gloomy clouds of night
And death’s dark shadows put to flight.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, Thou Key of David, come,
And open wide our heavenly home;
Make safe the way that leads on high,
And close the path to misery.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, O come, Thou Lord of might,
Who to Thy tribes, on Sinai’s height,
In ancient times did’st give the Law,
In cloud, and majesty and awe.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel.

Today I challenge you to think about how you are preparing for the birth of Jesus in just 2 days! I am making sure to pray a little extra in those two days so I can treat everyone around me with a little more love and compassion.
