A small thing from Sunday: an unexpected anniversary gift

Jonathan and I celebrated one year of marriage on Sunday! I never took the countdown off my phone, so I had to show you that yes, it was 365 days later, indeed.

We spent the whole day together, which was fabulous. It all started with mass at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart on the campus of Notre Dame.

Then we played lots and lots of games with some friends, including Dominion, Catch Phrase, TransAmerica, Ingenious, and Clue: The Museum Caper.

After that craziness we went to have a nice anniversary dinner at Tippecanoe Place, which is the old mansion formerly owned by the Studebaker family. (Yes, the family that made wagons and cars back in the day.)

The mansion has about 40 rooms and is now a restaurant. We ate our meal in the library!

After eating we wandered through the entire mansion, soaking in the history and the beauty the house had to share. The grand staircase led us through the four stories of living space.

And in almost each room there was a beautiful unique fireplace.

We wanted to make sure to document our visit, so we found a nice lady to take our picture in front of the grand staircase. It’s amazing how much this place reminded us of the Grand Hotel, where we stayed for our honeymoon! How perfect!

As we were saying goodbye to the hostess she told us that since it was our anniversary we got a little gift. She then pulled out a lovely lithograph of the mansion for us to take home! How cool is that??

After touring the lovely house we went back to our apartment and ate 1 year old wedding cake and watched our wedding picture slideshow.

It was a wonderful way to celebrate our first year of marriage, and the many more years to come!

What do you like to do to celebrate special occasions?

Congratulations, Kari and Jonathan! I love that you still have the countdown on your phone. 🙂 I have something similar that Pete and I did that we had posted until we moved (and I hope that we can post it again in our new home)! 🙂

    All our love!
