This weekend’s small thing: beer tasting

Mmm. Beer.

On Saturday we were invited to a beer tasting party. It is genius, really. Everyone brings a 6 pack of a beer they think is the best (or one they thought the label looked pretty) and the choices are put to the test. There are score sheets involved and mental math is a must to tally the winning scores.

I was very much looking forward to this event because my alcohol consumption is very limited this past year due to pregnancy and nursing.

We tried 10 different beers, only knowing the type and place of origin. It was fun to score each beer and marvel at the many different tastes!

As the winners were being tallied we had to have a drink off to break a tie. I was disappointed at first because the two beers were not the one I picked….little did we know the drink off was for the last place beer! We were still in it!

Then as the winners were announced, George and I played in the yard, hopeful that we would win the coveted prize pack. A variety six pack of beer, bumper stickers and a t-shirt from a local radio station, fun dips (yes!) and some bunny ears. I waited and waited and I slowly started to realize that my beer could win.

And it did!

We allowed George a victory sip of the winning beer*.

It was great time of socializing. As new parents these are very special moments to be around friends. George was fabulous which made it even more fun.

We are so fortunate to have made such great friends while temporarily located in The Bend. It did make me miss being around my friends and family back in KC, but that time is coming soon.

Here’s to a great weekend of warm weather and winning beverages.

Cheers!

If you were to enter a beer into a beer tasting contest, which one would you enter?

George is absolutely adorable!! Such a cutie pie. You didn’t have to tell us you “staged” the photo… we all know you!!

Went with your mom to see Kirk at prom last Saturday. Loved watching all the girls in their beautiful dresses! It is so hard to believe that your parents won’t be at West any more. Maybe they’ll be like Allan and I are and just keep going to functions! Bully Porter is my favorite all around (but realize I don’t drink very often,) and I love Nutcracker Ale around the holidays… how about you? What is your all around favorite?

Bully Porter BOULEVARD BREWERY Kansas City, MO. The intense flavors of dark-roasted malt in Boulevard’s rendition of the classic English porter are perfectly balanced by a generous and complex hop character.

A seasonal favorite from Boulevard Brewery:

Nutcracker Ale is Boulevard’s holiday gift for real beer lovers. This hearty, warming brew is a classic winter ale, deep amber in color, with hints of molasses balanced by the “spiciness” of freshly harvested Chinook hops. Only available from before Thanksgiving until after New Year’s.

    Alcohol (ABV) 7.8%

i love anything Boulevard makes, really. I would have to say my newest favorite is the winning beer I picked, the Vanilla Java Porter from Detroit. Or The Lips of Faith Cocoa Mole. Mmm good!
